1st Grade creates digital books!
1st graders created digital books this week using the site: readwritethink.org for their zoo unit. Each student researched an animal and found facts such as food, habitat, what they can do, what they are, and what they have. They even included an opinion statement about their animal. They loved the exposure to the MacBooks and practiced typing as well as working the trackpad. They were excited to print off their books and be able to draw and color pictures on them! Readwritethink.org is a great educational site!

Mrs. Boese's 3rd Grade Mystery # Skype
Mrs. Boese's class has Skype again with their collaborative classroom in Lincolnshire, Illinois. This time we played the "Mystery Number Game". Their students thought of a number first and our students had to try and guess it based on yes/no questions such as "Is the one's place odd", "Is it a 3 digit number", "Is it greater than/less than..." etc. Then their students guessed our mystery number. The students had fun trying to figure it out and enjoyed collaborating outside their own classroom walls with another class in another state! I have them guessing our number at the beginning of our movie because I love how excited they get "We did it, we did it!". I also love the social skills aspect this brings by having students introduce themselves and practice their math skills with students from around the United States.

3rd Grade Tech
Our new iPad carts for 3rd grade!
We made them using drawer carts on wheels, power strips and clips for the cords!
2 iPads fit per drawer so it works perfectly!
Mrs. Boese's PERFECT idea for a tech contract! Framed in her room, by the iPad carts is the class tech contract. All students signed the contract at the beginning of the year!
1st Grade Zoo Unit-Skype, Livebinders
1st Grade is in the middle of their zoo unit and have been busy integrating tech into their different lessons. They created a livebinder for their students to use to research their animal:
http://www.livebinders.com/play/play/1331638. This is a great way to narrow down the research aspect for younger students and make sure their sources are reliable and safe.

They will also be Skyping with several different zoos throughout the unit. Our first zoo was Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Texas. I learned about orangutans using iPads to play Apps as well as Skype with other orangutans from other zoos...so I thought why not connect them with our 1st graders! We were able to visit with Mookah and KJ while they were completing a training session. The students were able to ask questions to the zoo keeper and see and talk to the orangutans!
Here is a video of some of the Skype visit:
Interesting Ways to Use Evernote to Support Learning
A very informative Google Presentation Mr. Rhodes shared with his staff on using Evernote to support the learning process:
Mr. Graber's HS Civil Defense PSAs
Name:_______________________________and____________________________
Civil Defense PSA Assignment.
Today you and a partner will be making a Public Service Announcement about Personal and Family Survival.
You will watch some PSA with the teacher.
A typical PSA -
- is usually 60 seconds or less.
- present a single or one issue.
- inform the viewer of key, relevant facts.
- have a clear call to action (usually indicated through the text on the screen)
- might or might not include people (all team mates must be present in the video)
- might or might not use music
- sometimes uses voice over
- sometimes uses special effects (black and white)
- aim to leave a lasting impact.
You and your partner will need to use your assigned topic and create a 60 second informative podcast about your topic.
The goals of this project:
- INFORMATION - assume your audience is living in an era of needed preparation.
- Have fun with this - be corny and don’t be too serious - think about the tone in the booklet.
- Must be in black and white - 1950’s baby!
Completed Videos will be due on Monday @ the start of class.
